BALI: BLESSED IN UBUD

Bali’s a tropical paradise more commonly associated amongst my friends with its night scene of parties and drinking. Just last year, I spent a great deal recharging and discovering another side of Bali — one that I enjoyed more than the parties. Ubud's the kind of place (at least for me) that really recharges and rejuvenates your soul. It's a special place to be and if you're new to this side of Bali, here are some personal picks.

Yoga Barn Ubud
Yoga Barn has enjoyed massive success over the years and the place has not stopped in expanding its compound. Started out as just a simple destination for yoga classes, this place now hosts many series of activities including accommodation options. There’s always something for everyone, no matter how long you decide to stay. I personally find it enjoyable being in the compound. Take the time to experience it for yourself.

ARTOTEL Haniman Ubud
New in the the boutique hotel scene, Artotel Ubud opened its doors sometime in late 2018. With limited number of rooms, I have been informed that most nights are booked out quickly. The hotel provides a good balance between modern and traditional Ubud. As it sits comfortably in the heart of Ubud and is a walking distance to central Ubud, you won’t face much difficulties in finding restaurants and night establishments.

Full Circle by Expat Roasters
Full Circle is an all new dining concept by Expat Roasters, the brand behind one of Bali’s best specialty coffee establishments. An interpretation of the great meals behind a great cup of coffee, the restaurant sits beside ARTOTEL Haniman and serves meals starting early mornings. Their brunch is one of the better options for a western-style brunch in Ubud.

Hujan Locale
An upscale interpretation of Indonesian local food, I would recommend Hujan Locale to everyone who goes up to Ubud. The restaurant serves food unique enough for a guest yet heartwarming for a local. There are plenty of options available so take your time to go through the menu.

The Local Parts by Locavore
Having friends who are into food helps a great bunch when you’re personally bad with making decisions. Friends who are culinary snobs personally recommended a meal at Butcher’s Table, a concept by the people behind Locavore. As the name suggests, the meals are full of meat, and meat takes on different meaning for the people behind Locavore. You have to try to discover the meaning. This special feast happens only on Saturday nights, so be sure to set aside time in advance.

Room4Dessert
Room4Dessert’s Will Goldfarb has been on Chef’s Table, for all the right reasons. This dessert-only restaurant is famous and I can see why. There’s a thorough process that goes into everything created in here and is memorable experience even for non-dessert lovers. Cocktails in Room4Dessert also takes on a special role in the dessert dining experience.
